Torrey Pines South - January 4th, 2007 - Chris Cessna Photography

This was truly one of the most memorable days of my life. I've played a lot of rounds of golf with my dad, but this was his first round playing at Torrey Pines. Each of the last two years, my dad and I have gone to the Buick Invitational. This year, he finally got a chance to play at the course he had seen on TV and watched professionals play so many times. Not only did he get to play, but he played really well, especially on two of the course's most famous holes. Read picture descriptions for more specifics of the exciting day!

cessna > My dad's tee shot on the first hole, a 419 yard par 4. I couldn't believe I was playing Torrey Pines with my dad! I can play here regularly because of the rate that city residents get, but to see him playing the course that he watches Tiger play on was pretty exciting!
Neither of us played this hole very well, but thankfully that wasn't representative of things to come!

cessna > At the beginning of the day, I was a little disappointed that it was so cloudy for my dad's first round at such a beautiful course. I knew he had seen it on good days during the tournament, but I thought he was entitled to a sunny day for his first round. Oh well. Hole #2 didn't go well for either of us, but things got better.

cessna > Hole #3. This is a 142 yard par 3 that usually has one of the most beautiful views in golf. Today, the view was mostly of clouds. My dad hit a tee shot right of the green, then chipped to within about 25 feet. I was thinking to myself, "I hope he keeps this putt close so he can come out with a bogey". Apparently, he had other things in mind because he drained his long putt for a par!
