cessna  > Hiking and Backpacking > Sierra Nevada Mountains > Kearsarge Pass (11,760') - June 13, 2007
Second day of a two day backpacking trip from Onion Valley on the east side of the Sierras. This gallery includes pictures from Flower Lake to Kearsarge Pass at 11,760 feet. I'll add captions soon.
Rather than making one massive gallery, I divided this trip up into two sections. The photos from the first part of this trip (Onion Valley to Matlock Lake/ Flower Lake) are located at: http://cessna.smugmug.com/gallery/3011930

cessna > Last look at Flower Lake before heading up to Kearsarge Pass. The previous night, I was visited by a bear at my campsite near Flower Lake.

cessna > This was the only patch of snow on the trail between Flower Lake and Kearsarge Pass. Quite a difference from last year!

cessna > Big Pothole Lake, still with a little bit of ice.
Looking back southeast as I neared Kearsarge Pass. As beautiful as this view was, and everything else I'd seen so far in the last two days, it wouldn't compare to the view I was about to experience atop the pass.
cessna > Cathie and Randy are two of the many Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hikers I saw at or on the way to Kearsarge Pass. They had come over the pass from the west side to head down into Independence to resupply. They are from Virginia and are hiking the PCT to celebrate their 30th Anniversary. About three months until they reach Canada!
Their PCT website is http://cathieandrandy.com
