September 2-9, 2006
We had port stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Prince Rupert, BC.
The highlights of our cruise were The Mendenhall Glacier, Tracy Arm Fjord, and our train ride into the Yukon Territory.

cessna > The deck during the embarkation party just after leaving Seattle. This was the only time during the cruise that there were this many people outside. It was in the 80s the day we left Seattle, but never reached 60 degrees the remainder of the cruise.

cessna > Taken on the second day of the cruise in British Columbia's Inside Passage. We saw multiple orcas (killer whales) throughout this day.

Our first view of Ketchikan, the southernmost city in Alaska.
Ketchikan is considered the King Salmon Capital of the World.
Despite having a population of just over 8,000 people, Ketchikan is the 5th most populated city in Alaska! It receives more rainfall than any other city in North America with an average of 152 inches per year, and is surrounded by rain forest. Ketchikan has what would be considered very "mild" winters by Alaskan standards, with average high temperatures in the mid 30's in winter.

We saw real bald eagles in Ketchikan and Juneau, but we weren't close enough to get a good picture.
