cessna  > Hiking and Backpacking > Sierra Nevada Mountains > Onion Valley to Matlock Lake - June 12, 2007
The first day of a two day backpacking trip from Onion Valley on the east side of the Sierras. This gallery includes pictures from the trailhead to Matlock Lake. I camped near Flower Lake that night and was greeted by a bear in the middle of the night. The next morning I hiked to Kearsarge Pass (11,760') before returning to San Diego that night.
Rather than making one massive gallery, I divided this trip up into two sections. The photos from the second part of this trip (Kearsarge Pass) are located at http://cessna.smugmug.com/gallery/3011415

cessna > Waterfall above Little Pothole Lake. University Peak in the background. It looked like a storm was getting ready to roll in, but it stayed on the west side of the crest. The next day, some PCT hikers informed me that they got some sleet above 13,000 ft from this mini-storm. On the east side, it remained mostly sunny and in the 60s.

This lake was loaded with trout. Flower Lake had some trout, but most of the others had relatively few.
